Vintage Deals on eBay: MiUSA Shirt Recs for the Fall!
I've had a lot of success finding good deals and then posting them here. See the [recent deal]( for 50% off Red Wings at J.Crew for example! But what I tend to **actually wear** is a lot of vintage & used stuff that I find via eBay, Poshmark, thrift stores, vintage stores, etc. There are just so many good deals on older & used stuff, particularly for vintage MiUSA core items like OCBDs, flannels, shirt jackets, rugby shirts, etc. So I thought I'd share some eBay picks for a few of these types of items now that we are headed into the fall season in the US. **Pick #1: LL Bean MiUSA Chamois & Flannel Shirts** LL Bean used to make most of its stuff in the US until the 80s or so. All rock solid in terms of quality. Bean still sells some good stuff, but their vintage MiUSA stuff is truly great. Their chamois shirts are classic for a reason, and they still sell them today in a few cuts for $80 MSRP. But they made so many of these shirts over the years that it's super easy to find good MiUSA ones for $15-30. One way to filter down to just the good vintage LL Bean chamois & flannel shirts is to search by numerical size rather than alpha/letter size. At some point they switched from numbers (15, 15.5, 16, 16.5, etc) to letters (S, M, L, etc.) for these shirts, so by searching for items with the numbers you can easily narrow down on the good vintage ones. See this [complicated search](https://www.ebay.com/sch/57990/i.html?_dcat=57990&_fsrp=1&rt=nc&_from=R40&_nkw=bean+(chamois%2C+flannel)+(14%2C+14.5%2C+15%2C+15.5%2C+16%2C+16.5%2C+17%2C+17.5%2C+18%2C+18.5%2C+19)&campid=5339122415&_sacat=57990&LH_PrefLoc=1&LH_ItemCondition=3000&Country%252FRegion%2520of%2520Manufacture=!%7CUnited%2520States&Pattern=Solid%7C!&LH_TitleDesc=1&Brand=L%252EL%252E%2520Bean&Material=Cotton%7C) for example which finds 741 LL Bean chamois shirts in various sizes! I'm partial to the Navy chamois shirts myself, but the chamois shirts also come in lots of other nice colors plus in plaids and buffalo check for typical fall flannel shirt wearing. Some examples: \- Size 15 (20" chest, XS/S) in Navy Blue, $23: [https://www.ebay.com/itm/187210581561](https://www.ebay.com/itm/187210581561) \- Size 16 (22" chest, S/M) in Gray, $30: [https://www.ebay.com/itm/205288884404](https://www.ebay.com/itm/205288884404) \- Size 16.5 (24" chest, L/XL) in Teal, $15: [https://www.ebay.com/itm/176825135111](https://www.ebay.com/itm/176825135111) \- Size 17.5 (26.5" chest, XL) in Faded Blue, $29: [https://www.ebay.com/itm/157100114989](https://www.ebay.com/itm/157100114989) \- Size 19 (27.5" chest, XXL) in Red, $19: [https://www.ebay.com/itm/187487211268](https://www.ebay.com/itm/187487211268) I've also gathered some other LL Bean shirts on my "eBay Ambassador Storefront". Could be useful if you don't want to do more searching yourself: \- [XS & S](https://ebay.com/inf/jpvman-menswear-picks/collections/32073515017?mkcid=1&mkrid=711-53200-19255-0&siteid=0&campid=5339121524&toolid=80010&mkevt=1) \- [M & L](https://ebay.com/inf/jpvman-menswear-picks/collections/33895284744?mkcid=1&mkrid=711-53200-19255-0&siteid=0&campid=5339121524&toolid=80010&mkevt=1) \- [XL & XX](https://ebay.com/inf/jpvman-menswear-picks/collections/33744551945?mkcid=1&mkrid=711-53200-19255-0&siteid=0&campid=5339121524&toolid=80010&mkevt=1)L https://preview.redd.it/3xpys1jwm8nf1.png?width=1112&format=png&auto=webp&s=7c3000dc3e7f507a4483ef9ea13f92e5fa7fc83f **Pick #2: Woolrich Shirt Jackets & Overshirts** Vintage Woolrich MiUSA stuff is great. I have a Woolrich hunting jacket that's in great condition for example - it was under $100 on eBay, and it's from the 1930s! But for the fall, I think their wool shirt jackets / overshirts are a better pick. To find Woolrich's oldest shirt jackets that are 100% wool, you can use the "numeric" sizing search to find that era of products. See this search [here](https://www.ebay.com/sch/57990/i.html?_dcat=57990&_fsrp=1&rt=nc&_from=R40&_nkw=woolrich+wool+(15%2C+16%2C+17%2C+18)&_sacat=57990&Material=Wool&LH_PrefLoc=1&LH_ItemCondition=3000&LH_TitleDesc=1&Brand=Woolrich&Country%252FRegion%2520of%2520Manufacture=United%2520States%7C) for example. The older 100% wool ones seem to go for $50-100, while the later ones (only 85% wool) go for $25-50. The red & black buffalo plaid is classic, but there are other good colors and patterns as well. Some examples: \- Size 15 (19.5" Chest, XS/S) in Black, White, & Red Check, $75: [https://www.ebay.com/itm/186711418353](https://www.ebay.com/itm/186711418353) \- Size S (20.5" Chest) in Green & Black Check, $70: [https://www.ebay.com/itm/405433636749](https://www.ebay.com/itm/405433636749) \- Size L (23.5" Chest) in Navy, Red, & Gray Check, $39: [https://www.ebay.com/itm/277200378368](https://www.ebay.com/itm/277200378368) \- Size XL (25.5 Chest) in Brown & Tan Check, $84: [https://www.ebay.com/itm/326708904834](https://www.ebay.com/itm/326708904834) Here are some more options in each size: \- [XS/S](https://ebay.com/inf/jpvman-menswear-picks/collections/33279311885?mkcid=1&mkrid=711-53200-19255-0&siteid=0&campid=5339121524&toolid=80010&mkevt=1) \- [M/L](https://ebay.com/inf/jpvman-menswear-picks/collections/33279246348?mkcid=1&mkrid=711-53200-19255-0&siteid=0&campid=5339121524&toolid=80010&mkevt=1) \- [XL/XXL](https://ebay.com/inf/jpvman-menswear-picks/collections/33312014351?mkcid=1&mkrid=711-53200-19255-0&siteid=0&campid=5339121524&toolid=80010&mkevt=1) https://preview.redd.it/1uqrpm96q8nf1.png?width=978&format=png&auto=webp&s=0732de46549fb5c5eb4786559003a37811ab946d **Pick #3: MiUSA Rugby Shirts** Rubgy shirts are a classic American/Collegiate/Ivy style. They are just great knock around shirts for the fall. Three of the best manufacturers are actually still operating: Dehen & Columbia Knitwear in the Pacific Northwest + Barbarian in Canada. But you'll find the most vintage MiUSA inventory from LL Bean, Lands' End, and a few other brands, who would have sourced from Columbia, Barbarian, or others up until the 1980s. Prices are typically $25-50 or thereabouts. These are nice, thick, heavyweight shirts, so they are very much worth the extra $ compared to a typical long sleeve polo from J.Crew or similar. [Here's a search](https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_dcat=185101&_fsrp=1&rt=nc&_from=R40&_nkw=(vintage%2C+vtg%2C+usa%2C+miusa%2C+canada)+rugby&_sacat=185101&LH_TitleDesc=1&LH_PrefLoc=1&LH_ItemCondition=3000&Country%252FRegion%2520of%2520Manufacture=Canada%7CUnited%2520States&Sleeve%2520Length=Long%2520Sleeve%7C!&Brand=Lands%2527%2520End%7CL%252EL%252E%2520Bean%7CColumbia%7CDehen%7CBarbarian&Material=100%2525%2520Cotton%7CCotton%7C) that will find a decent amount of the good vintage inventory, though with some item by item inspection still needed to find just the MiUSA or Made in Canada versions. And here are some specific picks as well: \- Lands' End, Size XS (18" Chest) in Navy w/ Red & Yellow Stripe, $35: [https://www.ebay.com/itm/396778362500](https://www.ebay.com/itm/396778362500) \- Lands' End, Size M (22.5" Chest) in Purple, Black, & Magenta Stripe, $60: [https://www.ebay.com/itm/317226213010](https://www.ebay.com/itm/317226213010) \- Lands' End, Size L/XL (24" Chest) in Green w/ Black & White Stripe, $33: [https://www.ebay.com/itm/286677770825](https://www.ebay.com/itm/286677770825) \- LL Bean, Size XL/XXL (26" Chest) in Maroon w/ Navy, Teal, & Gold Stripe, $56: [https://www.ebay.com/itm/267377279151](https://www.ebay.com/itm/267377279151) Full set of picks here: \- [Size XS/S](https://ebay.com/inf/jpvman-menswear-picks/collections/33901838344?mkcid=1&mkrid=711-53200-19255-0&siteid=0&campid=5339121524&toolid=80010&mkevt=1) \- [Size M/L](https://ebay.com/inf/jpvman-menswear-picks/collections/33908391944?mkcid=1&mkrid=711-53200-19255-0&siteid=0&campid=5339121524&toolid=80010&mkevt=1) \- [Size XL/XXL](https://ebay.com/inf/jpvman-menswear-picks/collections/33285799948?mkcid=1&mkrid=711-53200-19255-0&siteid=0&campid=5339121524&toolid=80010&mkevt=1) https://preview.redd.it/52633a7tt8nf1.png?width=1010&format=png&auto=webp&s=c621ca856eac865d483fbfa525c63db081b32555 **NOTE** \- The flannels, shirt jackets, & rugby shirts I've highlighted above are quite basic & rather "norm core", or perhaps even "dad core"! \- But they are all much cheaper than buying similar items new & should be much higher quality than any equivalently priced Target/J.Crew clothing or even current items from the same brands. And I think these types of items are useful for most men to have somewhere in a wardrobe. \- See Brian Davis of Wooden Sleepers for specific styling ideas: [https://www.instagram.com/woodensleepers/](https://www.instagram.com/woodensleepers/) \- Also, the links above to the eBay Ambassador Storefront may earn me a commission if you use them. But none of the direct links to products or searches include any referral codes. \- I'm still experimenting with how best to collect and share eBay finds, so if you found this post useful please let me know! **Tips for Buying on eBay** \- There's lots of good advice on Reddit w/ regards to finding used & vintage clothing on eBay. See two prior posts from me for example: \- [https://www.reddit.com/r/frugalmalefashion/comments/1dde03f/my\_take\_ebay\_poshmark\_are\_a\_much\_better\_way\_to/](https://www.reddit.com/r/frugalmalefashion/comments/1dde03f/my_take_ebay_poshmark_are_a_much_better_way_to/) \- [https://www.reddit.com/r/frugalmalefashion/comments/1dehlmf/ebay\_poshmark\_tips\_advice\_followup\_to\_yesterdays/](https://www.reddit.com/r/frugalmalefashion/comments/1dehlmf/ebay_poshmark_tips_advice_followup_to_yesterdays/) \- If you haven't bought anything from eBay before, definitely search and read up for the basic advice. I believe all the links included allow you to make offers, so be sure to do that. And check measurements and all the photos first before buying!
