A review of New England Shirt Co.

So, after a person posted that this company was having a 50% off sale and some positive feedback from other posters, I decided to give this company a try because I needed a new oxford anyway and figured I might as well try something new while it was on sale. I also bought a denim popover and an oxford popover. I don't really think I can recommend others do the same. The good: I like the fabric on my Oxford. It's thinner than my brooks brothers and polo oxfords, but feels softer. It's very comfortable. The fit, too, was pretty nice. The denim popover is nice, but the fit is slightly odd. The fabric on this, too, feels like an already broken-in shirt, if that makes sense. The bad: First off, the buttons came out of the bag with threads already loose and sticking out of the button holes. The little "Made in America" tag at the bottom of the shirt came with two massive loose threads that I honestly think were leftovers from when the tag was sewn on, rather than a thread coming loose. After one wash, more threads came loose from the buttons and had to be snipped off. One of the buttons is now loose. The popovers have a slot for collar stays, but all of mine were too long to fit the collar. Honestly, this is a problem I've never had on another shirt, and I didn't know collar stays came in different sizes. The largest problem seems to be communication. Getting any kind of answers from them about anything seems to be like pulling teeth and they just kind of get to your questions whenever they feel like it, if they ever do. I don't know if I'm being the unreasonable one here, but a two (2) week response time feels a bit ridiculous. Two weeks to ship also feels a bit out there, but maybe that's more usual for small brands like this. Maybe I've just gotten spoiled buying from larger brands and expect too much. Summary: I (mostly) like the product I received from New England Shirt Co. The negatives, like the problems contacting the company and the loose threads and buttons aren't necessarily dealbreakers on their own, but they feel like problems you shouldn't have to deal with if a company is charging you almost $200 for a shirt. If these don't bother you, or if people respond below that it's not normally like this, definitely give them a try.
